Is Microsoft 365 Business Premium enough to manage Macs and iPhones with Intune?

Yes, for most organisations of 300 staff or fewer. Business Premium includes Microsoft Intune Plan 1 and Microsoft Entra ID P1, which together let you manage and secure macOS, iOS and iPadOS devices, apply Conditional Access, and use Platform SSO. It is the plan Blue Arc IT Solutions recommends for businesses at or under 300 users.

What Business Premium gives you for Apple

Business Premium bundles Microsoft Intune Plan 1 (full device management for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Windows and Android), Microsoft Entra ID P1 (Conditional Access and stronger identity controls), Microsoft Defender for Business, and Defender for Office 365 Plan 1. For Apple specifically, that covers zero-touch enrolment through Apple Business Manager, compliance policies, FileVault encryption, app deployment, and Platform SSO, which relies on Entra ID P1 being present.

The 300-user rule

The Microsoft 365 Business family is capped at 300 seats per tenant. If your organisation has, or is heading past, 300 users, you move to an enterprise plan such as Microsoft 365 E3 or E5, which also include Intune and carry no user cap.

When you outgrow it

Beyond the user cap, you might move to enterprise licensing if you need advanced Intune capabilities that Plan 1 does not include, such as deeper analytics or endpoint privilege management. For most small and mid-sized Australian businesses running Apple or hybrid fleets, Business Premium covers the ground.

Why Business Premium is a stronger floor since July 2026

Microsoft's global commercial price update, effective 1 July 2026, raised list prices for Microsoft 365 Business Basic and Business Standard, alongside the E3/E5 enterprise tiers and several other SKUs. Business Premium is not on Microsoft's published list of affected products, so its price held flat through the update. The practical effect is that the price gap between Standard and Premium narrowed, so moving up buys materially more security, Intune device management, Entra ID P1 Conditional Access and Defender for Business, for less of a relative step up than before the update. That is one reason Business Premium is Blue Arc IT Solutions' minimum entry point for any business holding client data, not just an Apple-management recommendation.
